In many countries, medicinal product prices are also determined by European reference prices. As a result, there is a complex and interdependent system of mutual price referencing. Thus, price negotiations in one European country have an impact on prices in other countries. In Germany, a special algorithm applies whereby prices and quantities are weighted according to purchasing power parity.
